Quick answer: For a lawyer, the No. 1 legal software is the most accurate one, not the one with the most features. Accurate legal software uses the current law (BNS, BNSS and BSA alongside the IPC, CrPC and Evidence Act for older matters), cites authorities you can verify, takes facts only from your documents, reads scanned and regional-language papers correctly, and follows Indian court formats. Juniorlawyer is built around those five tests. This guide explains each one and gives you a 15-minute accuracy test to run on any legal software before you trust it with a client's file.
Why accuracy decides which legal software is No. 1
A fast draft with a wrong section number is not a time-saver. It is a liability. In legal work, one error can:
- put a repealed provision in a bail application,
- cite a judgment that does not exist or does not say what the draft claims,
- carry a wrong date from an FIR into a chronology, or
- mistranslate a name or amount in a vernacular court order.
Each of these costs more time to catch and fix than the software saved. That is why advocates who try several tools usually settle on the one they have to correct the least.
The 5 layers of accuracy in legal software
| Accuracy layer | What it means | What goes wrong without it |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Law accuracy | Uses the statute in force on the date of the offence or cause of action | IPC sections for an offence committed after 1 July 2024, or BNS sections for older conduct |
| 2. Citation accuracy | Every authority can be traced to a real judgment or provision | Invented case names, wrong citations, misquoted paragraphs |
| 3. Fact accuracy | Names, dates, amounts and events come only from your papers | The draft fills gaps with assumed facts |
| 4. Language accuracy | OCR and translation keep names, numbers and legal terms intact | A scanned order is misread; a Hindi term is mistranslated |
| 5. Format accuracy | Output follows Indian court structure: cause title, grounds, prayer, verification | A draft that reads well but cannot be filed without restructuring |
1. Law accuracy: the right code for the right date
On 1 July 2024, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam replaced the IPC, CrPC and Indian Evidence Act. An offence is generally governed by the law in force when it was committed, while Section 531 BNSS keeps appeals, trials, inquiries and investigations that were already pending under the CrPC. A single file can therefore involve an IPC offence and BNSS procedure.
Legal software has to get this mapping right every time:
| Subject | Old provision | New provision |
|---|---|---|
| Cruelty by husband or relatives | Section 498A IPC | Sections 85 and 86 BNS |
| Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property | Section 420 IPC | Section 318(4) BNS |
| Anticipatory bail | Section 438 CrPC | Section 482 BNSS |
| Default bail | Section 167(2) CrPC | Section 187(3) BNSS |
Juniorlawyer is built for Indian law, covering both the new codes and the old ones. When you draft from an FIR, the provisions follow the code that applies to the matter. You can check any mapping yourself in our BNS vs IPC comparison tool.
2. Citation accuracy: no invented case law
General-purpose chatbots are known to produce case names and citations that look real but are not. Legal AI should ground its answers in real sources and tell you where each point comes from, so you can open the judgment and check it.
Juniorlawyer's research and chat are designed to cite statutes and judgments you can verify, and to say so when it cannot find support rather than inventing it. Read more in why Juniorlawyer does not invent case law.
3. Fact accuracy: your documents are the source of truth
The most common drafting error is not a wrong section. It is a wrong fact: a date, a name, an amount or the order of events. Juniorlawyer drafts from the documents you upload, such as the FIR, chargesheet, notice, agreement or order, so the facts in the draft come from your file.
The legal chronology builder turns those documents into a dated timeline, which makes gaps and contradictions easy to spot before they reach a filing. For live matters, CNR-based case fetching keeps hearing dates tied to official eCourts data rather than manual entries. See tracking cases by CNR number.
4. Language accuracy: OCR and translation that hold up
Much of India's litigation record is scanned, handwritten or in a regional language. Software must read those papers correctly before it can draft from them.
Juniorlawyer's OCR converts scanned and handwritten court records into editable text, and its translation works across English, Hindi and other Indian languages used in courts, with a focus on keeping names, numbers and legal terms intact. Read why Indian courts reject legal translations to see what accuracy means for filings.
5. Format accuracy: drafts that are ready to file
A draft is only useful if it follows the structure your court expects. Juniorlawyer's drafts for bail applications, legal notices, writ petitions, written statements and other documents follow Indian court formats, and the Microsoft Word add-in puts the output straight into your document so formatting is not lost in copy-paste.
Client data stays private
Accuracy is wasted if confidential papers leak. Juniorlawyer encrypts documents in transit and at rest, does not train models on your documents, and stores data in India. Details are on our security page.
The 15-minute accuracy test for any legal software
Before you choose the No. 1 legal software for your practice, run this test on a free plan or trial:
- Section mapping: ask "What is Section 498A IPC under the BNS?" The correct answer is Sections 85 and 86 BNS. See our 498A to BNS guide.
- Code by date: give an offence committed before 1 July 2024 and check that the tool frames the charge under the IPC, not the BNS.
- Citation check: ask for two Supreme Court authorities on any point, then open each judgment and confirm the citation and the paragraph.
- Fact check: upload a real FIR or order and ask for a summary. Compare every name, date and amount with the original.
- Language check: upload a scanned Hindi or regional-language page and check the OCR text and translation line by line.
- Honesty check: ask about a very recent judgment. A reliable tool says what it can and cannot confirm instead of guessing.
Count the corrections you had to make. The tool with the fewest corrections is the most accurate for your practice.
Accurate software still needs a careful advocate
No legal software can sign a pleading or take responsibility for it. An advocate must check every draft before filing. The point of accurate legal software is to make that check quick, so you spend your time on strategy and argument instead of retyping and re-verifying.
