A final-file check asks whether the document is complete, readable and consistent with the receiving forum's requirements. For comparing products, use the drafting tools guide; for a software evaluation, use the trial scorecard.
Confirm the document and forum
Check the current directions and the appropriate document type with the advocate responsible for the matter. An old office precedent may provide a starting layout without establishing today's filing requirements.
Review the heading and party descriptions
Match the court name, matter identifier and parties to the records. Check descriptions carried over from another case. Use consistent defined terms throughout the document.
Inspect paragraphs, references and annexures
Check continuous numbering after edits. Confirm that cross-references and annexure labels point to existing material. Tables should preserve the relationship between entries when exported or printed.
Check verification and supporting material
Review verification and any supporting requirements with the responsible advocate. One issue to check, where applicable, is:
- Missing or defective verification under Order VI Rule 15 CPC; commercial disputes may also require the Statement of Truth under Order VI Rule 15A
Read the terms and privacy policy before uploading client material. The policy states that data is primarily stored on secure servers in India and that some processors may process data outside India; it does not promise exclusive Indian data residency.
Compare the exported file with the approved draft
Inspect the complete output for missing paragraphs, unresolved placeholders, page breaks, tables, signatures and supporting documents. Check the receiving court's current layout requirements separately; a familiar-looking file does not establish compliance.
Keep the approved version identifiable
Record who reviewed the file and which version is intended for use. Keep the source records available for any later check. For the substance as well as the layout, use the proofreading checklist.
